1. No one posts CASH ONLY signs...but they'll sure let you know when you have no cash and try to pay with credit.
2. Customer service (or lack thereof) they don't care if you're spending money in their store or not...and they let you know it.
3. California hours...no respectable small local business opens before noon, and certainly NOT according to posted hours.
4. No recorded message with pertinent info such as location, hours, etc.
5. Cool kids club...if you're not part of the clique, don't expect to be acknowledged (certain types of businesses only...such as bike stores and clothing stores).
6. Ethnic kids club...if you're not Chinese, don't expect any, let alone poor service in a Chinese restaurant...ditto for Thai, Indian, Mediterranean.
7. Ice is expensive, apparently. Ice water by REQUEST ONLY.
8. Hipsters. San Francisco equivalent to Omaha's Saddle Creek kids. They're everywhere! Like the plague.
9. Local art...every coffee house and eating establishment is festooned with local art...one can only take so much.
10. High prices even for San Francisco...if all the above isn't enough to make you beat down the door of a small business, all their wares are astronomically priced.
Screw the little guy! In San Francisco, anyway.

And yet despite all that, one little fact trumps it all: you're not in Omaha any longer. :)
Funny how it takes moving away from Omaha to fully realize how many amenities it offers!
